About the Program

Automotive Engineering is an applied science that involves mechanical, electrical and safety engineering for the design, manufacture and operation of motor vehicles such as motorcycles, cars, buses, tractors and trucks and their functional systems. In this program, you will learn the foundations of those engineering fields to combine them with the development of wheeled vehicles.

Practically, all concepts seen in mechanical engineering are also mastered by an Automotive Engineer, who applies them to a specific product. For example, the structural design of a chassis, a gas exhaust system, or the thermal operation of engines. Therefore, an Automotive Engineer can develop a braking system, a suspension and steering system, an engine and power transmission system, safety mechanisms and (alternative) fuel technologies.

The Automotive Engineering program at UFSC requires a minimum completion of 10 semesters of study, in addition to the completion of a required internship, complementary (extracurricular) activities and outreach actions for the non-academic community. Our program is recognized as one of the Engineering programs rated 5 stars by the Estadão 2022 College Guide. Find out more about the day-to-day life of students at Academic life.

The Automotive Engineer graduated from UFSC in Joinville is recognized by other countries, such as Germany. In Germany, the Brazilian degree from UFSC is recognized as “Fahrzeugingenieur” and “Fahrzeugingenieurin” (Automotive Engineer) within the context of the H+ status. This status allows for the degree to undergo an equivalency evaluation within German territory.
